On December 2, a ferry was reportedly damaged after its roro ramp broke when the ferry was scheduled to leave the port.
What happened?
The ferry ‘Alkinoos’ reportedly suffered damages when a wire of the starboard side stern ramp broke when the ferry was about to leave the port of Igoumenitsa.
The ferry had been scheduled to proceed towards Corfu with 64 passengers onboard. However, the roro ramp on the ferry could not be pulled up and the ferry was detained.
Detained until further repairs:
The 64 passengers onboard the ferry were forwarded to their destination by another ship owned by the company. The ferry has been detained until the damaged roro ramp is restored. Furthermore, the ferry has to obtain a class maintenance certificate by the attending classification society before it is allowed to leave.
