Libyan Coastguards Detain Suspected Fuel-Smuggling Ship
Reports say that on Saturday, the Libyan coastguards intercepted a vessel with 12 foreign crew members suspected of smuggling diesel. They came across the suspicious vessel while conducting a routine reconnaissance mission. The tanker was said to be carrying about 1.66 million litres of diesel from unknown sources.
“The coastguard was conducting a reconnaissance mission when it intercepted the tanker carrying about 1.66 million litres of diesel,” coastguard official Abu Ajila said. He said the crew of the vessel was arrested, adding that they were of Ukrainian, Turkish and Azerbaijani nationality.
