In November 2024, Gibraltar recorded 479 bunker vessel calls, an increase of 16 compared to November 2023. This marked the busiest month for bunkering since June 2024, reflecting a resurgence in maritime fuel demand, reports Bunkerspot.
Year-to-Date Refueling Trends
Between January and November 2024, 4,683 vessels called at Gibraltar for refueling, showing a slight but consistent increase from 4,416 vessels during the same period in 2023. This steady growth highlights Gibraltar’s enduring status as a crucial Mediterranean bunkering hub.
Vessel Traffic and Gross Tonnage
November 2024 also saw a total of 884 vessels calling at Gibraltar, the highest monthly figure since May 2024. The total gross tonnage of all vessels reached 26,622,869—the highest monthly figure recorded since December 2023.
Decline in Ship-to-Ship Operations
While vessel traffic increased, commercial ship-to-ship (STS) operations recorded a slight decline in November 2024, with four operations compared to five in November 2023.
Gibraltar’s Strategic Role in Maritime Logistics
These statistics underline Gibraltar’s pivotal role in global maritime logistics, particularly in the Mediterranean region. The combination of increased bunker vessel calls, overall traffic, and tonnage reinforces its position as a key hub for maritime trade and refueling operations.
