On January 17, the grounded vessel was successfully refloated on the grounding site by the crew members and the salvage team.

What happened?

The vessel ‘Halland’ was refloated and started moving on the grounding site, Mönsterås. The vessel coming from Riga was loaded with a cargo of wood pulp and tons of diesel oil when it ran aground.

The vessel had reportedly ran aground due to technical issues and dropped anchorage at the grounding site.

The salvage team had planned to lighten the cargo onboard the vessel before it could be refloated but aborted the plans due to a possible propeller damage.

Ballast tank emptied:

However, the ship was able to move with its own power after its ballast tank were emptied and the rudder started to work again.

The vessel will be allowed to leave after further inspection and repairs.
