GSI’s Largest Ever Ferry On Its Way

927

We had a tremendous pleasure last week of receiving the first new-built passenger vessel hired by DFDS since the SCANDINAVIA in 1982 as reported by DFDS.

Aura Seaways

Guangzhou Shipyard International (also known as GSI) in Southern China built Aura Seaways. She will be our largest RoPax ferry in terms of cargo capacity, with 4500 lane metres. With a deadweight of roughly 12750 tonnes (cargo/payload, fuel, ballast, and stores capacity), she can carry nearly three times as much as Scandinavia.

Aura Seaways meets the new EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) design standards, and CO2 emissions per trailer are more than 20% lower than on vessels already operating on the Karlshamn-Klaipeda and Kiel-Klaipeda routes.

Our colleagues at BU Baltic have been excitedly anticipating her arrival, and we are confident that she will be of great assistance to them.

A heartfelt thank you and appreciation to the site team and crew in China, who are working tirelessly to prepare the vessel for the voyage to Europe under challenging conditions. We wish them good luck.
