The World Expo or Expo 2020, hosted by Dubai in The United Arab Emirates, had to be rescheduled from Oct 1st, 2021 – March 31st, 2022 due to the COVID pandemic. This major event attracted tourists from various countries all around the world amidst the current situation as reported by Reuters.

International tourism

Livya Feho, a Brazilian traveller, used a 24-hour layover in Dubai to attend Expo 2020, one of the few international tourism sites still available for visitors during the coronavirus-affected holiday season.

Feho, who was travelling from Israel to Brazil, took a few selfies in the main area of the global market, which was decked out with Christmas trees and other holiday decorations.

Was she unconcerned about catching COVID-19 because the Omicron form was circulating in the UAE?

“Yes, a little…but I took the booster… and I’m also wearing the mask. As a result, I believe I will be alright “, she stated

Pandemic & economy

Another lockdown in Dubai, the Middle East’s commercial and tourism capital, is unthinkable. Its economy, which has sunk due to coronavirus restrictions, is mainly reliant on the travel industry.

Despite global lockdowns, it welcomed 5.5 million visits in 2020, and 4.88 million by the end of October this year, according to government data.

Infection rates in the United Arab Emirates are once again on the rise. On Wednesday, there were 665 new cases, yet travellers continue to enjoy the city’s glittering hotels and nightlife.

Gabriela Petrova, a visitor from the Czech Republic, claimed that all she needed to land in Dubai was a PCR test.

“No matter what the risk is right now… I can just take my precautions and still enjoy Dubai,” Yvette Dbedevi, a Togo visitor, remarked.
