Here is an interesting news where Hong Kong is all set to join hands with the existing Chinese ECA zones.

Present Requirement:

Last year, on July 1, Hong Kong introduced a mandatory 0.5% cap on the sulfur content in marine fuel for ocean-going vessels at berth, except during the first hour after arrival and the last hour before departure.

Future Requirement:

all vessels must switch to marine bunker fuel with a maximum sulfur content of 0.5% once it enters a designated Emission Control Area zone come January 1, 2019.

A spokesman from Hong Kong’s Environmental Protection Department confirmed the move saying Hong Kong “will collaborate with the relevant mainland authorities to put the ECA in place,” some media reports in China said.
