South Korea’s Hyundai Samho has delivered a new liquefied natural gas carrier which will serve the Shell-led LNG Canada project in Kitimat, says an article published in LNG Prime,

Vessel handed over

The Korean yard handed over the 174,000-cbm Diamond Gas Victoria on July 28, Japan’s NYK said in a statement.

Diamond LNG Shipping 6, a joint venture consisting of NYK, MISC’s Asia LNG Transport Dua, and Mitsubishi Corporation, owns the vessel. NYK will manage the ship.

Chartering the vessel

In addition, Diamond Gas International, a unit of Mitsubishi Corporation that also has a stake in the LNG Canada project, will charter the vessel for a period of about 17 years, NYK said.

The vessel will ship volumes from LNG Canada but prior to that, it would serve other plants around the world.

Diamond Gas Victoria features WinGD’s dual-fuel slow-speed X-DF propulsion and GTT’s Mark III Flex cargo containment system.

Sister vessels delivered

The 297 meters long vessel also has a reliquefaction system that can use reliquefied excess boil-off gas and return it to the cargo tank.

To remind, Hyundai Samho delivered the sister vessel Diamond Gas Crystal, which will also ship volumes from LNG Canada, in May.

Export capacity expanded

The giant LNG Canada project, worth more than $30 billion, includes the construction of 14 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) export capacity from the first two trains, with the potential to expand to four trains in the future.

Shell expects the first LNG shipment from the plant in British Columbia in the middle of the decade.
