- South Korean shipping giant HMM and IKEA Supply Chain Operations have joined forces to promote sustainable shipping practices.
Green Sailing Service
HMM’s Green Sailing Service utilizes biofuels derived from waste biomass to reduce carbon footprint during cargo transportation.
Reduced Emissions
The agreement aims to cut around 11,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions by utilizing biofuels for IKEA’s cargo shipments with HMM between March 2024 and February 2025.
Shared Sustainability Goals
This collaboration aligns with IKEA’s objective of achieving a 70% reduction in transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and becoming an emissions-neutral cargo owner by 2040. HMM also aims to expand its Green Sailing Service through wider partnerships.
Additional Notes
This initiative comes after IKEA’s collaboration with Hapag-Lloyd for decarbonizing their Asian container shipments. HMM previously partnered with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics for their Green Sailing Service.
