JGC plans to expand its ammonia plant business by collaborating with Toyo Engineering and KBR, says an article published in ArgusMedia.

Projects on ammonia fuels

Domestic demand is to rise in line with Japan’s 2050 decarbonisation plan.

On April 26, JGC and Toyo committed to working together on a feasibility study, initial engineering and design projects, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects for fuel ammonia production facilities and receiving terminals.

They intend to use their combined experience to improve their competitiveness and operations.

Licence agreement signed

On April 25, JGC and KBR inked a licencing deal to use KBR’s ammonia production method. JGC can use KBR’s licensed technology in ammonia manufacturing plant designs and EPCs.

Setting up the ammonia supply chain

In the Keihin coastal area of Tokyo bay, refiner Eneos, power provider Jera, and steelmaker JFE have begun to investigate establishing ammonia and hydrogen supply chains.

Jera, together with partner utilities Kyushu Electric Power and Chugoku Electric Power, plans to investigate establishing ammonia and hydrogen supply networks for power generating decarbonization.

Jera and Itochu, a trading business, are also working with local enterprises on ammonia projects in Thailand and Malaysia, respectively.
