 Reduction in emission

The respective cooperation agreement has recently been signed with the ferry operator Elbferry GmbH & Co. KG. As a result, the operations of the ferry accrue up to 90 percent less nitrogen dioxide and 20 percent less CO2. In addition, particle emissions have been almost entirely reduced and no sulphur is generated from the combustion of the alternative fuel.

The ferry „GREENFERRY 1“, which was previously in operation in Norway, commutes several times per day between the ports of Cuxhaven and Brunsbüttel, thereby closing an important infrastructure gap along the North Sea coast while enabling the crossing of the Elbe River in less than one hour. Not only is the actual travel time significantly reduced for trucks on the important transport corridor along the coast, but the generation of emissions from the transport of goods and people on the road is also lowered.

Efficient service

Christian Strahlmann, Managing Director at Elbferry GmbH & Co. KG, highly welcomed the cooperation: „By appointing LIQUIND Marine and GasCom for organizing the LNG supply chain and conducting regular bunkering operations, we can put our commitment towards progressive environmentally friendly technologies into practice. Furthermore, this cooperation underlines our ambitions to establish the ferry service between Brunsbüttel and Cuxhaven long-term.“

Mr. Strahlmann also praised the easy handling and flexible scheduling of the LNG bunkering service. Based on current demand, the supply for the ferry can be conducted on both ends of the service route. The LNG is supplied with several trucks per week and the ferry bunkering is done through special parallel unloading equipment, which reduces the time needed to unload a truck to less than one hour.

Cleaner air

The managing directors of the LNG suppliers, Norbert Scholz (GasCom), and Christian Schneider (LIQUIND Marine), are pleased to be able to contribute even more to clean air at the Elbe: „We are delighted about the trust placed in us by Elbferry. Based on our experiences from the first weeks, we see substantial potential for a long-term cooperation in LNG supply for the ferry.“

Being the market leaders in setting up LNG supply infrastructure for trucks and marine customers in Germany, the two companies have substantial experience in setting up efficient and safe supply chains. According to the managing directors: „Our activities always benefit the customer and the environment. “
