  • Lloyd’s Register and SHI Collaborate to Develop Green Ammonia FPSO System.
  • Innovative FPSO for Green Ammonia Production to Harness Offshore Wind Energy.
  • LR and Samsung Heavy Industries Partner for Net-Zero Advancements.

Lloyd’s Register has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with South Korean giant, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), on the development of a floating production, storage, and offloading system for green ammonia. The innovative collaboration would further contribute to furthering advancement in green energy solutions, reports LR.

Green Ammonia FPSO Systems

The FPSO process, traditionally used in oil and gas industries, is modified to accommodate green ammonia production by incorporating renewable energy sources into electrolysis of seawater for green hydrogen production, followed by mixing it with nitrogen and synthesizing it into green ammonia. The ammonia can then be shipped to ammonia carriers.

The FPSO will have a design that can connect to offshore wind farms in Europe with renewable energy to power the ammonia production in a sustainable manner.
