Maersk’s First Large Green Methanol Vessel, Makes Dubai Debut

According to Maersk’s statement, the Denmark-flagged container ship Ane Maersk highlights the company’s goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The arrival of Maersk’s initial large vessel took place in Dubai and was warmly received by DP World at Jebel Ali. Ane Maersk symbolizes our aspirations for sustainability and innovation. This vessel is the first of 18 large vessels ordered by Maersk, set to be incorporated into the Danish ocean carrier’s fleet between 2024 and 2025.

Ane Maersk’s Journey

Traveling along the AE7 route that links Asia and Europe, Ane Maersk reached the United Arab Emirates after departing from Hamburg, Germany. It made stops at various ports in Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Gulf countries. Following its cargo operations in Dubai, the vessel will continue its journey to ports in China.

Christopher Cook, managing director at Maersk UAE, Oman, and Qatar, stated that Ane Maersk embodies their commitment to sustainability and innovation. He emphasized the need for collaboration with customers, partners, infrastructure, regulators, and other stakeholders, recognizing that the green transition cannot be achieved alone.

Ane Maersk’s Arrival at Jebel Ali

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC expressed pride in welcoming Ane Maersk to Jebel Ali, emphasizing the significance of its arrival in showcasing the ongoing green shift within the industry. He described Ane Maersk as a symbol of sustainability that aligns with DP World’s ambitions for carbon reduction. Bin Damithan highlighted that achieving net zero emissions requires collaboration from every stakeholder in the supply chain, and he expressed pride in collaborating with committed partners like Maersk.

Innovative Design and Green Technology of Ane Maersk’s

Ane Maersk, equipped with a cutting-edge dual-fuel engine capable of utilizing green methanol, marks the beginning of Maersk’s fleet expansion. These new vessels boast an industry-first innovative design, featuring the bridge and accommodation situated at the very front of the ship. This design allows for increased cargo capacity and reduced consumption per container. During Ane Maersk’s inaugural stop at Jebel Ali, Danish Consul-General in the UAE H.E. Joakim Larsen, DP World GCC CEO and Managing Director Abdulla Bin Damithan, along with several top customers and partners of Maersk, had the unique opportunity to board the vessel.
