Classification society DNV’s latest tally shows that there are now 281 confirmed methanol-fuelled vessels in operation and on order, and four new confirmed orders for ammonia-fuelled vessels.

12 methanol-fuelled vessels were added to DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) database in April, DNV’s senior consultant Kristian Hammer said in a social media post.
The largest share of newbuild orders for methanol-fuelled vessels are container ships (169), followed by tankers (53) and bulk carriers (19), according to the DNV’s latest update.
10 LNG-fuelled vessels were ordered in April. There are currently 535 LNG-fuelled vessels in operation.
