Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) came to the rescue of a stranded vessel not far from Pulau Bruit by delivering food supplies to the vessel crew.
MMEA said it received a call for help from the vessel owner through the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Putrajaya.
The vessel MT Southern Water 1, loaded with 242 metric tonnes of diluted phenol (plywood gum), was making its journey from Pasir Gudang, Johor to Telok Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu when it encountered main engine problem some 47 nautical miles from Kuala Rejang, Tanjung Manis last Friday.
It had remained there while waiting for tug boat, which was delayed by the bad weather.
Upon receiving the call for help, MMEA activated a special operation to deliver food and drinks to the seven crew members using its KM Selimang vessel.
It reached and located the MT Southern Water 1 at 8.35pm the same day, and successfully loaded the food and drinks to the stranded vessel.
MMEA advised those encountering incidents or emergencies in seas off Sarawak to contact its operation centre’s 24-hour hotline at 082-432544 or call 999 so that immediate relief and rescue can be taken.
