The Anglo-Eastern Group, a prominent ship management conglomerate headquartered in Hong Kong, has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) to significantly boost its pool of Indian seafarers, says an article published on hindu business line website.

Strategic Goals And Commitments

Under the MoU, Anglo-Eastern Group, represented by Vineet Gupta, Managing Director of Anglo-Eastern Ship Management India, commits to incorporating a minimum of 1,000 Indian seafarers annually until the fiscal year 2024-25.

The conglomerate, already employing 21,000 Indian seafarers, envisions a substantial economic impact, estimating the creation of 3,000 jobs for Indian seafarers to contribute approximately Rs900 crore.

Vision For Indian Seafarers In Global Shipping

Vineet Gupta emphasized that the primary objective of the MoU is to secure additional shipboard berths for Indian seafarers, fostering job creation and significantly contributing foreign currency to India’s exchequer. Anglo-Eastern Group aligns itself with the DG Shipping’s vision to elevate the presence of Indian seafarers in the global shipping industry.

Leveraging India’s Young Workforce

With a staggering 250 million Indian youth forming a robust and dynamic workforce, Gupta highlighted India’s potential as a dominant force across industries. He urged global ship management companies, including Anglo-Eastern Group, to capitalize on the abundance of educated, smart, and hardworking Indian youth.

Investment In Maritime Training Infrastructure

Gupta emphasized the need for high-quality maritime training infrastructure in India, facilitated by the rich experience of skilled merchant navy officers and leaders in the Indian maritime industry. This, he believes, will enable the seamless training of Indian manpower for the specialized ship management industry.

Anglo-Eastern’s Role As A Key Contributor

As one of the largest employers of Indian seafarers, Anglo-Eastern Group operates the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy near Mumbai. This world-class institute not only contributes to the education and training of maritime professionals but also ensures job security for successful graduates.

In conclusion, Anglo-Eastern’s MoU with DGS reflects a strategic commitment to bolster India’s presence in global shipping, creating opportunities for skilled Indian seafarers and contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth.
