Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) plans to strengthen cyber security and expand the nation’s sea transport digital platform.

MPA signs a memorandum

During the Singapore Maritime Technology Conference, MPA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Singapore Shipping Association to improve cyber security in the port with industry partners BW Maritime, Eastport Maritime, Ocean Network Express, Orient Maritime Agencies, Pacific Carriers, Pacific International Lines and Thome Ship Management.

Round table debate

The first phase involves a roundtable debate between the partners, to be held later this year, to review and implement cyber-security measures.

Participants are expected to recommend initiatives to improve maritime security through information sharing to facilitate greater awareness and access to cyber solutions, and find ways to grow the talent pool for maritime cyber skills in Singapore.

Sea Transport Industry Digital Plan

MPA is also expanding the Sea Transport Industry Digital Plan to include more port services.

First launched by MPA in 2020 to cover ship agency, harbour craft and bunkering, the extension will cover more services, such as ship chandlers and brokers, marine surveyors, ship management and vessel operators.

MPA will extend funding support for adopting pre-approved digital solutions beyond 31 December 2022.

More than 3,000 enterprises in the sea transport subsectors will be eligible to apply for co-funding.
