MSC Steals Maersk’s Spotlight, Hires Søren Toft as COO

According to an article published in The Loadstar, Maersk Line has announced that its chief operating officer Søren Toft has decided to leave the company.

In search of better opportunities

In a surprise statement, the Danish operator said Mr. Toft has decided to pursue an opportunity outside of the company and will leave, effective today.

The responsibilities as chief operating officer will, in the interim, be taken on by chief executive Søren Skou.

The executive board will hereafter consist of Søren Skou, chief financial officer Carolina Dybeck Happe, chief commercial officer Vincent Clerc and Morten Engelstoft, chief executive of APM Terminals, said Maersk.

Maersk records weaker Q3 growth

While the global container demand, as expected, was lower in Q3 due to weaker growth in the global economy, AP Moller-Maersk continued to improve the operating results. We delivered strong free cash flow and a return on invested capital of 6.4% as a result of strong operational performance in Ocean, higher margins in Terminals and solid earnings progress in Logistics & Services.” – Søren Skou, CEO of AP Møller-Mærsk (APMM).

MSC hires Soren Toft

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has confirmed that Soren Toft, who recently resigned as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of A.P. Møller – Mærsk, would be joining the company as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

MSC said Toft would report directly to Diego Aponte, Group President, and Gianluigi Aponte, founder, and Group Chairman.

Toft comes to MSC after spending the past 25 years at Maersk, specifically as Maersk Line’s Chief Operating Officer since 2014.

MSC is confident that this appointment will bring significant value to its cargo businesses, building on the company’s existing strengths and boosting its development plans even further, the company said in a statement
