Pioneering Energy Efficiency in Maritime Transport

In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable shipping, Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC) proudly announces the successful completion of MV Ballard’s dry dock and sea trials, featuring an array of state-of-the-art energy efficiency measures. Among these innovations, MV Ballard has become the first vessel in the KCC fleet, and one of the pioneers in the dry bulk/tanker industry, to adopt Silverstream Technologies’ revolutionary air lubrication system, the Silverstream® System.

Revolutionizing Ship Efficiency with Cutting-edge Technologies

The Silverstream® System, an engineering marvel, employs air release units (ARUs) strategically placed along the vessel’s bottom. These units create a microbubble layer, significantly reducing hull-water friction. In addition to this groundbreaking technology, MV Ballard boasts other eco-friendly installations, including the WE Tech shaft generator, Becker Mewis Duct, welding seam fairing, silicon paint, and the Kongsberg Ship Performance System. These upgrades collectively enhance energy efficiency and minimize the vessel’s environmental impact.

Commitment to Sustainability and Decarbonization

CEO Engebret Dahm emphasizes KCC’s unwavering commitment to delivering cost-effective decarbonization solutions to their customers. The integration of these cutting-edge technologies underscores KCC’s dedication to staying ahead in the race toward a sustainable future. The company is actively implementing a range of energy and operational efficiency solutions across its existing fleet, while simultaneously gearing up for the utilization of zero-emission fuels in their newbuilds.

Advancing Sustainability Milestones

Following MV Ballard’s successful upgrades, the CLEANBU MV Baru is set for a Silverstream® System retrofit in November 2023. This signifies a strategic step toward a greener future, showcasing KCC’s pioneering role in the maritime industry’s transition to environmentally conscious practices. With a projected energy efficiency improvement of around 15% aboard MV Ballard, KCC is paving the way for a new era of eco-friendly shipping.
