The general cargo ship Newzenberg declared to arrive at Nakhodka port on Thursday last week, but turned off AIS and has not called at any Far East Russian port. Hence the Russian Port control system which registers all the calls at the country’s ports sent warning message to all fishing and cargo ships in vicinity to be cautious for the missing cargo vessel. Later today the Russian Emergencies Ministry received a distress call from the vessel asking for assistance to help the mechanical failure. It is said that the vessel suffered a 5-day long drift due to this problem and was in a complete blackout. The crew has tried to fix problem by own means, but failed. A Salvage tug Kaliningradets left Nakhodka port to help the disabled NEWZENBERG.
