On Sunday afternoon, the Puma Mk2 helicopter crashed while landing at the Nato’s Resolute Support mission headquarters, Kabul.  Five people including two RAF Personnel died at the scene and five others were injured.  The identity of the victims were not disclosed, but the families of the British victims were informed.

NATO’s combat mission in Afghanistan has ended but around 12,000 mostly U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan as a part of Resolute Support, focused on training Afghan security forces.

The Ministry of Defence Spokesman commented:

“The incident is currently under investigation, but we can confirm that it was an accident and not the result of insurgent activity.”

This incident follows the attack on a convoy of UK military vehicles in Kabul on Sunday morning.
