A Chartered Agreement for LNG Carrier with Kyuden Group has been signed, as concluded by NYK.

NYK and Kyuden Group partnership

NYK and Kyuden Group’s company-Q United Energy Supply & Trading Co. have signed a new time charter contract on September 1 for a new Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) carrier. 

The carrier will have a WinGD-made dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine that can operate on marine gas oil or boil off the gas and is very efficient in fuel consumption. The cargo tank will be a 174,000 cubic metre capacity membrane-type tank that will suppress the boil-off rate by using advanced insulating materials. It will feature a re-liquefication system to use surplus boil-off gas efficiently and realize a more efficient, economical and greener operation.

By being the owner and managing company of the LNG carrier, NYK will contribute to Japan’s energy supply heavily. NYK and Kyuden group will also cooperate in the LNG fuel supply business for ships and the construction of LNG-fueled large coal carriers.

Aims and strategies

In March 2022, NYK released “NYK Group ESG Story” which introduces endeavours for integrating ESG into the Group’s administration strategies outlined in the “NYK Group ESG Story”. It delivers a partial explanation of the Group’s sustainable growth strategy from a long-term standpoint.

NYK strongly promotes ESG management by creating new value creation as a sustainable provider through a business approach. Before the shift to future zero-emission fuels, the transportation of LNG is anticipated to be a low-carbon bridging fuel.
