NYK President’s 2025 Greetings
President Soga began by acknowledging the difficulties faced in 2024, including natural disasters in Japan and ongoing geopolitical conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. He expressed hope for a peaceful future, free from such hardships.
Despite global challenges, Soga highlighted NYK’s strong performance in 2024, with an expected operating profit of 410 billion yen, surpassing the previous year’s results. He attributed this success to the dedication and hard work of all employees, offering his gratitude for their efforts.
Looking ahead to 2025, Soga addressed economic uncertainties, noting the continued strength of the U.S. economy despite potential policy shifts under President Trump. He emphasized the need for vigilance and the importance of identifying emerging business opportunities, particularly in regions like India and Africa, which are expected to experience significant growth.
Soga also underscored NYK’s commitment to sustainability. Reflecting on the company’s early adoption of LNG fuel for its car carriers in response to climate change, he reiterated NYK’s goals of a 45% emission reduction by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. He called for a passionate commitment to environmental efforts beyond industry obligations.
The fiscal year 2025 marks the third year of NYK’s medium-term management plan. Soga emphasized the importance of corporate and digital transformation (CX/DX) as supportive strategies. He advocated for empowering regional offices with greater autonomy and fostering a diverse and inclusive leadership structure. On the digital front, he stressed the importance of leveraging technology for efficiency, from autonomous vessels to automated warehouses.
Closing his address, Soga reflected on the symbolic significance of 2025 being the Year of the Snake, representing regeneration and transformation. He expressed optimism for NYK’s continued growth and safety, marking the company’s 140th anniversary with celebrations planned for all employees.
President Soga concluded by wishing all NYK employees and their families a healthy, prosperous, and accident-free year ahead.
