- OceanWings’ Wind Technology Gains Official Approval, Paving Way for Commercialization
- Fuel Efficiency & Emission Reduction: OceanWings’ Wind System Approved by DNV
On 29 October 2024, in Busan, South Korea, OceanWings, a pioneer in the Wind assisted propulsion market, was granted Approval in Principle (AIP) by DNV, a world-leading classification society, for its pioneering wind propulsion technology. The AIP was granted in Busan, South Korea, and represents the potential of OceanWings’ Wind Assisted Propulsion System (WAPS) ‘s potential to significantly impact fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction across the maritime sector, reports OceanWings.
Milestone Towards Full-Scale Commercialization
This is a milestone for OceanWings on the development of its WindAssisted Propulsion System as it moves toward full-scale commercialization. An AIP now gives the shipowners and shipyards a validated solution. It promises increased efficiency for the next generation of maritime fleets.
A Practical Solution for Decarbonization
Christophe PAILLUSSEAU, VP of Sales and Marketing at OceanWings, comments: “Receiving the AIP from DNV is a testament to our team’s dedication to creating a cleaner and more sustainable future for shipping. With the increasing focus on decarbonization, our solution offers a practical and cost-effective pathway for shipowners to meet stricter environmental regulations.”
Future of Wind Propulsion
The AIP is a seal of approval for OceanWings’ dedication to innovative and sustainable solutions for the shipping industry. Indeed, with this approval seal, OceanWings is well-positioned to help shipowners transition toward greener operations. It also helps demonstrate how wind propulsion is increasingly being considered a viable pathway toward achieving environmental goals.
