On March 18, a vessel suffered engine damage following an oil and water leakage in the engine room.
What happened?
The vessel ‘Freifjord’ was enroute from Elnesvåg area when it suffered engine problems with an oil leak and sea water in the engine room.
The vessel was situated in the Edøy Fjord at that time. The sea water intrusion caused damages to the propulsion and the electric cardboard.
Tow boat assists vessel
A distress call was raised and the vessel was assisted by the lifeboat “Erik Bye” and the tug “Karl”. Both the vessels were successful in towing the vessel into the port of Vågen on March 19.
Oil boom placed
The vessel is currently berthed at the Nordmørs Quay. As a precautionary measure, an oil boom was laid out around the ship by alerted fire brigade.
The ship was pulled on the Kristiansund Yard in Vågen where it was expected to be surveyed for further repairs within 14 days.
