Pirate Attack Cargo Ship, 5 Crew Kidnapped

On July 27, a general cargo was allegedly attacked by Nigerian pirates who further kidnapped 5 crew members.

What happened?

The general cargo vessel ‘OYA1’ which started its journey from Takoradi Ghana to Douala Cameroon was attacked by the notorious Nigerian pirates  20 nautical miles off Bonny, Nigeria, Gulf of Guinea.

The pirates tagged and boarded the ship with arms and held the crew members hostage.

5 crew members kidnapped:

The captain of the ship managed to alert the Nigerian Navy, who arrived shortly. On seeing the Navy vessel the pirates allegedly started fleeing and kidnapped 5 crew members. The vessel with remaining crew members was escorted to a nearby port by the Nigerian navy.

The officials have initiated investigation and are reportedly trying to contact the pirates to rescue the crew members taken by them.
