The Port of Helsinki reported a 0.1% decline in total cargo turnover for January-February 2025, reaching 2.23 million tonnes, according to port administration data.
Cargo Handling Trends
- Packaged Cargo: Increased 2.4% to 1.92 million tonnes.
- Bulk Cargo: Declined 30.1% to 172.7 thousand tonnes.
- Container Turnover: Rose 0.6% to 75.7 thousand TEU.
- Wheeled Equipment: Dropped 3% to 99.74 thousand units.
Vessel Calls and Passenger Traffic
- Vessel Calls: Increased 4.2% to 1,123 units.
- Passenger Traffic: Grew 3.7% to 1.1 million people on maritime routes.
Annual Performance & Role of the Port
In 2024, the port’s total cargo turnover increased by 0.5% to 14 million tonnes. The Port of Helsinki is Finland’s largest cargo and passenger port, playing a crucial role in Baltic Sea trade, especially for Finland’s foreign trade goods, which are primarily transported in trucks, trailers, and containers.
Since 2010, the port has been operated by the City of Helsinki, handling over 14 million tonnes annually.
