What happened?
A federal response team had prevented the Danish container ship ‘Laura Maersk’ from running aground Saturday.
The ship had lost its engine power and began drifting towards the Akutan coast.
Ship rescued:
Various response teams which included the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Midget, a Coast Guard chopper, and three local tugboats, stopped the container ship 5.5 miles from shore. The tug ‘Gretchen Dunlap’ was successful in towing the ship back to Unalaska.
