Revised Guidelines For The Implementation Of EEDI Requirements

The purpose of this Note is to draw the attention of the parties concerned to the adoption of two guidelines at the 79th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the implementation of Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) requirements – 2022 EEDI Calculation Guidelines and 2022 EEDI Survey and Certification Guidelines sources MardepHK.

New Guidelines Adopted

On 16 December 2022, the IMO revised the existing guidelines and adopted the following new guidelines for the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) requirements at the 79th session of MEPC: 

  • Resolution MEPC.364(79) – 2022 Guidelines on the method of calculation of the attained Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for new ships (supersede 2018 EEDI Calculation Guidelines adopted by resolution MEPC.308(73))
  • Resolution MEPC.365(79) – 2022 Guidelines on survey and certification of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) (supersede 2014 EEDI Survey and Certification Guidelines adopted by resolution MEPC.254(67))

Shipowners, ship managers, ship operators, masters, classification societies and shipbuilders of Hong Kong registered ships are advised to note the information and act accordingly.
