SAR Saves Crew from Sinking Cargo Ship

  • Cargo ship Jianghaiyanghongwei was reported sinking in the northern Taiwan Strait.
  • SAR ship Dong Hai Jiu 116 was sent to assist and saved the 5 crew members.

Chinese cargo ship sinks in Taiwan Strait, following which the crew members were rescued, writes Mikhail Voytenko for Maritime Bulletin.

Cargo ship sinks

Cargo ship Jianghaiyanghongwei was reported sinking at around 0000 Beijing time Mar 31 some 50 nm southeast of Pingtan, Fujian Province, northern Taiwan Strait.

Crew rescued

Search and Rescue (SAR) ship Dong Hai Jiu 116 was sent to assist, when she approached disaster site, cargo ship already sank, leaving 5 crew members in the water.

  • Four crew members were spotted with the help of searchlights and picked up from water.
  • The fifth member was found hours later and rescued. He was also declared safe.
