Seafarers International Research Centre Launches Study For Improving Healthcare

147

The Seafarers International Research Centre is undertaking a study to assist ports, employers, and governments in improving healthcare for working seafarers in the cruise and cargo sectors.

Research Conducted

According to the Seafarers International Research Centre, participants will be invited to take part in either a face-to-face interviewer-administered questionnaire or a voice-recorded online interview (e.g., via Zoom). The interviews are expected to last for less than 60 minutes, with the length partly determined by the contribution of the participant.

The research is led by Professor Helen Sampson in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University and is funded by The Swedish Mercantile Marine Foundation.

Upon completion of the study, a publicly accessible online report will be published. Additionally, the research team may create additional presentations, reports, or written accounts for stakeholders in the maritime sector.

Academic Usage

The findings may also be utilized by the research team in the creation of academic books and articles. These materials may contain verbatim quotes from interviewees, which will be anonymized by removing all identifying information about individuals, companies, and ships. However, interviewee rank, sex, age, and nationality may be used. The online report will be accessible on the web pages of the Seafarers International Research Centre until the end of 2025.
