On the day after American football game Super Bowl 50, #SB50 was a global Twitter trend on Monday.  Fans discussed the game and the halftime performance with tweets reading, “It just goes to prove defense wins you championships” and “It was cool for Chris Martin to let his dad come out and sing instead of him at #SB50 this year”.

The US Olympic Committee has told athletes and staff to consider not participating in Brazil’s Rio Olympics in August over the Zika virus threat.  USA’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had issued an advisory, warning pregnant women against travelling to places with a Zika outbreak.  Zika has been reported in 33 countries, most of them in the Americas.

New Zealand defeated Australia by 55 runs in captain Brendon McCullum’s final ODI to clinch the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy.  The Kiwis posted 246 thanks to McCullum’s whirlwind 47 and then dismissed the Australians for 191, with Matt Henry taking 3 wickets while Ish Sodhi and Corey Anderson took 2 wickets each. McCullum played 260 ODI matches and scored 6,083 runs.

India stayed top of the leaderboard on day three of the South Asian Games with a total of 72 medals.  The Indians won 18 gold, six silver and three bronze medals for a total of 27, with eight medals in swimming, six in wrestling, four in weightlifting, three in squash and two each in wushu, badminton and cycling.
