Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has signed a contract with Taiwanese shipping line TS Lines for the construction of two methanol-powered 14,000 TEU containerships and two 7,000 TEU boxships.

Energy Saving Devices

As disclosed, the 14,000 TEU vessels represent the next generation of green and environmentally friendly large containerships independently developed and designed by SWS.

The ships will be equipped with multiple desulfurizations, carbon reduction, energy-saving, and drag-reduction devices. This includes scrubbers and windshields. The company expects that the new technologies will significantly optimize rapidity, reduce carbon emissions, and reduce fuel consumption.

To remind you, last month, SWS scored an order to build four methanol-fueled containerships for Singapore-based independent common carrier X-Press Feeders.

Fourth Vessel

On the same day, SWS hosted a naming and delivery ceremony for the 7,000 TEU boxship TS Dubai. The ship is the fourth in a series of six 7,000 TEU vessels SWS is building for TS Lines. It is 272 meters long, 42.8 meters wide, and has a deadweight of about 86,000 tons.

The company noted that since the delivery of the first 7,000 TEU containership at the end of June 2023, SWS has completed and delivered a total of 22 ships of this series in less than a year.
