Lady Luck

Typically the last thing you want to do with a ship is have it sink — unless it’s to make it an awesome underwater exhibit.

A ship the length of a football field is scheduled to be sunk on July 23rd about a mile from the Pompano Beach fishing pier, near Fort Lauderdale.

The 324-foot Lady Luck tanker ship will be part of the new Shipwreck Park, which will also be home to 16 existing wrecks already covered with marine life.

Artist Dennis MacDonald was hired to transform the sunken ship into a faux casino to add more allure to the attraction.

“Imagine the photo ops divers will enjoy,” Rob Wyre, Isle Casino general manager, said in a statement.  “They will be swimming up to poker tables, card sharks and slot machines on the ship’s deck, a cascade of gigantic dice and an octopus dealing craps.”

Divers will be allowed to visit the sunken ship almost immediately after the July 23rd sinking.
