The International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code is set to undergo significant alterations with the impending mandatory enforcement of Amendment 06-21 (Amdt 06-21) from 1 December 2023.
These amendments were initially scheduled for implementation on 1 January 2023 but experienced delays due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on approval processes at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Background and Changes
- Revised Group Classifications: Amdt 06-21 will introduce updated definitions for the IMSBC Code group classifications, potentially altering how various cargoes are categorized and handled.
- Cargo Entries: Notable changes include the deletion of the “Ammonium nitrate-based fertilizers” from Group C, with the introduction of a new Group C entry for the same cargo.
