On October 5, a car carrier vessel reportedly broke away from its mooring after being hit by the storm ‘Xavier’.
What happened?
The car carrier ‘Splendid Ace’ which was anchored at the New Ems Pier in Emden, broke away from its mooring due to strong winds caused by the storm ‘Xavier’. After breaking away from its mooring, the car carrier started drifting away from its berth.
Tugs dispatched to assist the ship:
After a distress was raised, four rescue tugs ‘Finn’, ‘Friedrich Wessels’, ‘Stier’ and ‘Waterstroom’ was dispatched to assist the car carrier which was adrift perpendicular to the fairway of the Ems.
The tugs were successful in assisting the vessel to drop its anchor and the vessel was brought under control. The tugs towed the vessel back to the Ems Quay and is currently anchored at the port until further orders.
