On August 6, a cargo vessel ran aground off the coast in Dumaran, Palawan due to strong winds and big waves.
What happened?
The tourist vessel ‘Cleopatra’ was enroute to Lucena City, when it ran aground due to bad weather conditions. The tourist boat sank in the waters off Helicopter Island in El Nido, Palawan.
Search and rescue
Nearly 14 people were rescued with the help of military and returned to El Nido.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the sequence of events leading to the vessel running aground.
Fortunately, none of the crew members onboard the vessel were injured and no pollution to the environment was reported.
