The Ukrainian cargo jet named “Mriya” is the undisputed superstar of the skies — the biggest airplane in the world. Watch the video of the aeroplane which is taking flight on a rare delivery mission across three continents.
Formerly known as Antonov An-225, the plane was developed as a space shuttle but got morphed into the world’s biggest flying van.
What makes this plane so special?
- Most airliners are powered by two or four jet engines whereas this plane has six.
- Its wingspan measures 290 feet (88 meters), which is longer than five 53-foot semi-truck trailers set end-to-end.
- Its total weight at takeoff is 640 tons. Which is more than twice as heavy as the Statue of Liberty.
- Mriya has 32 wheels spread across its oversized landing gear.
It’s rare to see it in action. Thousands of spectators are expected to greet the plane and its six-member crew when it arrives, according to the Antonov Company.
