[Watch] Nuclear Powered Ship Smashes Through Ice Very Close to Explorers

The group of men had been driving across stretches of northwestern Russia when the horrifying moment happened.

They can be heard screaming as the towering vessel creates its own path through the ice.

The ship, Tamyr, is one of the world’s largest icebreakers and was built for Russia during the final years of the Cold War.

It measures a staggering 490ft in length and weighs around 21,000 tons.

The vessel is powered by a single nuclear reactor which can be found in the centre of the boat’s hull.

Instagram user oper_11 posted the remarkable clip earlier this week, where it has since garnered more than 13,000 views.

“Everything started to tremble when it got close,” he explained.

“When it approached, it was so cool that the words can’t even describe.”

Viewers were quick to comment their awe at the sheer power of the machine.

“Wow for a big ship she slices through ice like a knife through butter,” one wrote.

Another was more concerned, however, saying: “Standing so close to the ice-breaker is dangerous in my opinion.”
