Tanker Adrift Off Slite

1981

On January 24, a vessel reportedly remained adrift after encountering engine problems.

What happened?

The vessel ‘Kaprifol’ was enroute from Aarhus to Turku when it reportedly ran into engine problems off Slite.

The vessel reportedly requested for assistance after it failed to anchore due to rough sea conditions since the anchor was dragged by winds ranging between 18-20 m/sec.

Tug dispatched:

The Swedish coast guard dispatched the tug ‘Triton – KVB 002’ to assist the distressed vessel and was able to pull the tanker to safe anchorage off Aminne near Slite around evening.

Vessel to be inspected:

Once the strong winds subside, the vessel is scheduled to be inspected by technicians to determine the engine problem. Until then, the vessel is scheduled to be anchored at the port.
