A bulk carrier and a cargo ship collided at Sungai Muar, reports TheStar.
What happened?
A steering system failure is suspected to be the cause of a collision between a bulk carrier and a cargo ship at Sungai Muar.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said that the bulk carrier was reported to have experienced steering system failure, causing it to move to the right and block the route of the cargo ship.
Damage and injury reported
According to reports, there were a total of 49 crewmen on both ships. No injuries have been reported.
Oil spill
Early investigations by the Johor MMEA showed that there is some damage to the bulk carrier as well as some oil spillage.
“Both ships have been detained to assist in investigations by the Marine Department and the Environment Department (DOE),” Nurul Hizam added.

Emergency signal
Nurul Hizam said that upon receiving an emergency signal on the collision, the department mobilised its assets to the scene.
