Weaker Vessel Demand Because Of Baltic Index

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index, tracking shipping rates for various vessel sizes carrying commodities, declined for the second consecutive session, reports XM.

  • Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index, tracking ship rates for dry bulk goods, fell for the second straight session, dropping 1.1% to 2,411.
  • Capesize index slipped 0.7% to 4,276, with average daily earnings decreasing to $35,463.
  • Panamax index hit a mid-November low, down 2% to 1,915, with daily earnings at $17,231 for these vessels.
  • Fearnleys noted surplus vessels in the North Atlantic softened the market, favoring charterers, while the South Atlantic saw increased demand and higher rates.
  • The supramax index hit a two-week low at 1,442, down 1.4%
