A livestock carrier, carrying grains, caught fire at Portland, off the coast of Victoria in Australia.  The fire damaged a silo containing 800 tonnes of grains onboard the ship.

The fire crews were called to the port after the report of smoke from a silo in the livestock carrier.  The crew stood for one whole night to contain the fire onboard.  Despite the fire suppression techniques, the vessel is still alite.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and no injuries were reported in this incident.  The fire on the ship did not affect the port operations, which continues at a normal pace.

The Awassi Express was a 2,300 TEU container vessel that was converted into a livestock carrier with approximately 22,000 sqm of livestock capacity.  From June 2014, the vessel is transporting livestock from Asia to Australia.
