Shipping Industry Affected by Hurricane Harvey

Major shipping operators have been affected by hurricane harvey and most notably Hapag Lloyd has revealed that the services of three vessels has been suspended at the Port of Houston due to the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Harvey.

Cargo loaded through available vessels:

When the calls were omitted by the vessels, the cargo was loaded onto other available vessels. On the other hand, all outgoing export cargoes for the vessel were planned to be loaded on a subsequent vessel.

On its Gulf Caribbean Service (GCS), 2,478 TEU Container ship ‘Frisia Lissabon’ omitted the port of Houston for safety reasons. It is planned to resume calls to Houston today. All imports were discharged at the Mexican port of Altamira and transferred to Liner services vessel ‘MV March’.

Hapag Lloyd service take a hit:

Another ship on the service, 2,478 TEU Buxlink berthed in Houston on September 4, 2017.

For Hapag Lloyd’s South America East Coast – Caribbean Service (SCS), containership ‘Monte Pascoal’ also omitted the port of Houston for safety reasons. As with the other ship, all imports were discharged at Altamira and transferred to MV Monte Cervantes 081SB.

Alongside another vessel on the service Monte Cervantes, Monte Pascoal was expected to call at Houston Port on September 5, 2017.

Regarding the operator’s US Gulf – South America East Coast Service (GS1), a 6,732 TEU capacity container ship named ‘Ludovica’ also omitted the port of Houston for safety reasons, and imports were discharged at New Orleans.

Hapag Lloyd said: “We are deeply saddened by catastrophe Hurricane Harvey has brought to the US, our thoughts are with all those suffering from Harvey`s impact.”
