Fourteen Missing As Cargo Vessel Sinks Off Papua

Reports say that  a cargo vessel carrying building materials for the construction of bridges, sank off the coast of Papua near Asmat.

The vessel was enroute from Timika Port in Papua to Asmat.  It is reported that the ship might be overloaded and the rough weather compounded to her woes in the waters near Asmat before it sank.

Muhammad, spokesperson of Mimika Search And Rescue (SAR), is reported to have said : “We received a report on Saturday afternoon at around 10 p.m. local, saying KM Azula sank off the coast,”.  “We are still searching 14 passengers and crews of the KM Azula,” he added.

Police and Navy officers along with three Search and Rescue boats are out in the sea searching for the missing 14 passengers and crews.
