In a significant development for polar exploration, ABB has secured an order to supply its state-of-the-art Azipod® DI propulsion system for the new icebreaker of China’s Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering. The new compact icebreaker will be equipped with a complete electric propulsion system, featuring two powerful 4.5 MW Azipod® units.
