Coaster Beached to Avoid Sinking, Costa Rica

On December 8, a coaster intentionally beached trying to avoid sinking in the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

What happened?

The Panama flagged coaster ‘Yicel’ intentionally ran aground to avoid sinking on a beach located 40 nautical miles off Limon, Manzanillo, Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

The coaster reportedly suffered from water ingress through cracks or breaches in the hull and the crew members were unable to handle after the control pumps failed and the Captain of the vessel decided to beach the vessel.

Salvage plan:

A salvage plan has been charted out to pump the water from the ship, refloat the vessel and tow it to the nearest port for further repairs.
