COSCO SHIPPING Specialized celebrated the naming of its first 7500-vehicle LNG dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), “Liaohekou,” in Xiamen, Fujian. This marks a significant milestone in Chinese automotive ocean transport, introducing “large vessels” and “new energy.”

Innovative Vessel Design

The “Liaohekou,” along with its sister ship “Minjiangkou,” features state-of-the-art LNG dual-fuel engines, meeting IMO TIER III emission standards. Designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute and built by Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group, these vessels offer 13 vehicle decks and a capacity of 7500 CEU, significantly reducing emissions and environmental impact.

Enhanced Transport Capabilities

COSCO Shipping Specialized integrates “roll-on/roll-off” and “heavy lift” shipping modes to meet diverse transport needs. With 157 routes, 60 ports, and 310 products, the company is revolutionizing the automotive shipping industry and enhancing China’s automotive export capabilities.

Future Fleet Expansion

Looking ahead, COSCO Shipping and its joint venture have ordered 24 modern LNG dual-fuel car carriers, aiming for a fleet of approximately 30 specialized car carriers by 2026. This expansion will enable the transportation of 700,000 vehicles annually, with 80% being clean energy vessels, supporting the global growth of Chinese automotive brands and the “Made in China” initiative.
