Cosco Shipping’s Mega Boxship Damaged in Collision

China Cosco Shipping mega-boxship CSCL Jupiter has suffered damage in a collision in Cai Mep, Vietnam, reports Seatrade Maritime News.

What happened?

According to China Cosco Shipping the 14,300 teu boxship was involved in a collision on Thursday evening. 

Company’s note

The company said in a notice to customers that the CSCL Jupiter suffered damage in the collision, but there was no pollution, injuries or damage to cargo as a result.

Repair work

Repairs to the CSCL Jupiter which is deployed on the AEU7 Asia – Europe service were estimated to take around a week.

No details were given on the collision which occurred at Cai Mep, which has relatively narrow river approach.

Port access blocked in 2017

It is not the first incident involving the CSCL Jupiter which ran aground on the approach to the port of Antwerp in August 2017 blocking access to the port.
