  • Ro-ro cargo ship fire off Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
  • The ship with vehicles and other cargo on board was bound for Cadiz Spain.
  • Fire was taken under control and the ship was taken on tow and towed back to Santa Cruz and was berthed.

Ro-ro cargo ship with vehicles caught fire shortly after leaving Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

Ro-ro cargo ship VOLCAN DE TENEGUIA, reported fire on board shortly after leaving Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, on Feb 22. 

The ship was bound for Cadiz Spain and was loaded with vehicles and other cargo on board.

Firefighting teams assistance

  • SAR tug PUNTA SALINAS (IMO 7931894) responded with the firefighters.
  • The fire was under control by 2100 UTC.

Any damages reported?

  • Disabled ship was towed back to Santa Cruz and was berthed at around 0100 UTC Feb 23.
  • As of morning Feb 23, VOLCAN DE TENEGUIA remained berthed at port, extent of damages unknown.
